🧬 What is Dermorphin?
Dermorphin is a naturally occurring heptapeptide isolated from the skin of South American frogs (Phyllomedusa sauvagei). It is a potent μ-opioid receptor (MOR) agonist, exhibiting 30–40 times higher analgesic activity than morphine in animal models. Its high receptor affinity and resistance to enzymatic degradation make it a key tool in pain modulation, opioid signaling, and addiction pathway studies.
Due to its selectivity for the MOR subtype and ability to cross the blood-brain barrier in certain formulations, Dermorphin is used in both central nervous system pharmacology and experimental neuropathic pain models.
