Scientific Overview

Elamipretide (SS-31) is a novel mitochondria-targeting tetrapeptide that selectively penetrates the inner mitochondrial membrane and binds to cardiolipin, a unique phospholipid critical for maintaining mitochondrial structure and function. By stabilizing cardiolipin, Elamipretide reduces oxidative stress, prevents mitochondrial swelling and cytochrome c release, and promotes ATP production, making it a high-potential candidate in mitochondrial dysfunction and age-related disease models.

Originally developed by Stealth BioTherapeutics, Elamipretide has been studied in neurodegenerative diseases, ischemia-reperfusion injury, myopathies, and metabolic syndrome.
