Scientific Overview
Melanotan-1 (Afamelanotide) is a synthetic analog of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH) designed for highly selective and prolonged activation of the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R). It stimulates eumelanin production, providing enhanced photoprotection and UV-induced DNA damage reduction without the need for ultraviolet exposure.
Melanotan-1 has been studied extensively for its therapeutic effects in pigmentation disorders (e.g., erythropoietic protoporphyria, vitiligo), as well as for its protective roles in oxidative stress, inflammation, and melanoma prevention.
